Mannheim Steamroller

I attended my very first Mannheim Steamroller concert last night.  HOW fun!  If you'd never been but you love the band, I highly recommend you go.  If you're not sure who they are, or if you do know who they are and don't know how they work, I still recommend you go.  What I loved about the concert was that I was in the latter category and found myself pleasantly surprised.  Not only is it an orchestral performance, but it's accompanied by a video and light show!  The music is "choreographed" to videos and light shows to enhance the experience of the music.

And they're gaining fame.  They've been in the Macy's Day Parade three years in a row now.  They've been guest musical performances on Late Night shows, and they're even performing in Vegas and Disney!

I discovered Mannheim Steamroller because my Mom loved them.  We used to listen to the CDs growing up, so I knew that when they came to Chicago that I had to go!  They played my favorite songs, and they had some very interesting videos.  Unfortunately, once they started playing O, Holy Night, I started sobbing!  WHO DOES THAT?!  I would have thought that losing my mom 5 years ago would have been long enough ago to thwart any emotional breakdown at a concert.  Totally wrong.  They music started, the candles came up in the video, and the water works started!  There I was, in the middle of the aisle, sobbing and trying desperately to hold it in.  Lol.  My poor boyfriend wasn't sure how to react, but he grabbed my hand and tried to be supportive.  Looking back, it's comical to me, but in the moment I was slightly dumbfounded!

Foregoing the crying part, you should definitely take a look at them!  Their current CD is Christmas in Venice.  It's a great, slightly modern twist to the classical songs we've all come to love!
