Things Students Say

I love those "Things Kids Say" anecdotes.  I think they're fantastic.  I also love things students say, because often they say it just with the same mentality as children: without thought and without intention.  They just say it.

Here are some fun ones I've heard either myself or from others:

Instead of Jugar (to play, in Spanish) the student said "Tocar" (To touch / play an instrument)
"Yo toco con mi mama".
.....aaaaawkward.....

"Purple is the color of royalty" - Teacher
"No it's not!  That's crazy" - High school students' general reaction
"Yes, and it has been for hundreds of years!" - Teacher
(One specific student) - "Yeah it is, guys.  Haven't you seen the packaging that Crown Royale comes in? Duh!"

(student sniffling and sneezing)  "I'm so falling out right now"
teacher, "I'm sorry; you're what?"
"Falling out."
"Hunny.  You can't say that.  That's not what you mean"
(Student looks confused)
"Falling out means your boobs are coming out of your shirt.  It doesn't mean that you're sick"
"OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS!?"

"What color is a tiger?"
"Is that what tigre means in English?"
"Yes"
"Oh ok.  So like, you mean tiger, as in like, Tony the Tiger?"
"........yes."

Teacher:  "What is the premise of the book?"
Student:  "What does that word mean?"
Teacher:  "Premise?  It means the basic idea or overall message / argument"
Student:  "Ok, so the promise of the book is that..."

Ah, the minds of children.
